TW: Economic abuse. Starling designed its Hide references feature to support survivors of economic abuse. When other forms of communication have been blocked, abusers can still use payment references to send harmful or triggering messages to the survivor. Blocking payments or changing bank accounts may mean the survivor no longer receives the child maintenance or money they're due. Starling's solution is simple: giving survivors the power to hide payment references from specific payees, without having to provide explanations or prevent the money from landing in their account. They can unhide the references at any time from the app.
